Updated November 2026 · 9 firms · how we rank below

Nine Depo-Provera meningioma lawyers and law firms are ranked here, all holding court-appointed roles in MDL 3140 before Judge M. Casey Rodgers in Pensacola. The federal case had 6,289 member actions as of July 27, 2026, and Pfizer and plaintiffs' lead counsel signed a confidential Master Settlement Agreement on July 21, 2026; the parties estimate about 80% of MDL plaintiffs will be eligible. Each attorney entry lists a phone, street address, court role and the firm's stated intake screen.

Which one fits your case

A year or more of shots, with surgery or radiation done or scheduled: any firm here will review it. Simmons Hanly's published screen asks for exactly this, so a treated tumor fits its intake most clearly.

Short use (two or three shots): start with the firms whose stated screen is lowest. Weitz & Luxenberg names two injections and Motley Rice says more than twice. Anapol Weiss asks for about one year (four shots).

Tumor found on a scan and watched, not treated: say so on the first call. Intake rules differ and the settlement's rules are confidential, so ask each firm whether a monitored tumor qualifies.

Told you are not eligible for the settlement, or you want to opt out: the MDL keeps a court track for those cases (CMO 14). Ask a leadership firm how that track applies to you.

Timing: if your diagnosis was more than a year ago, call this week. Deadlines are set by state law (see below).

How we rank

We score each firm on four things. 40%: role in MDL 3140 as named by the court in Pretrial Order 18 (lead counsel scores highest, then executive committee, steering committee, subcommittees). 25%: focus on this case, shown by a Depo-Provera page with a stated intake screen. 20%: published results (firm-reported totals). 15%: access (free review, nationwide intake, phone on the page). No Depo-Provera verdict exists and settlement amounts are confidential, so court role carries the most weight. We found no star ratings we could verify, so ratings are not scored or shown; any rating you see elsewhere is third-party. Firms do not pay to be listed. This is a ranking by a stated method, not a claim that any firm is the best.

Birth control shot and brain tumor: what the lawsuits claim

The cases say Pfizer and its Pharmacia units did not warn that the Depo-Provera shot (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate) can raise the risk of meningioma, a tumor in the lining of the brain or spine. The lawsuits lean on a French study published in the BMJ in March 2024 that tied use longer than one year to higher risk. About 39,000 meningiomas are diagnosed in the U.S. each year, according to NBC News, so most tumors are not linked to the shot. A lawyer will compare your injection dates with your diagnosis date.

How many injections qualify

There is no single public number. Each firm sets its own intake screen, and the settlement's eligibility rules are confidential. On the firm pages we checked, the stated screens run from 2 injections to about 4 injections (one year of use). Weitz & Luxenberg says at least two injections; Motley Rice says more than twice and one year or more; Anapol Weiss says one year, which it equates to four injections; Simmons Hanly and Seeger Weiss say at least one year. The shot is given about every three months, so four shots is roughly a year. If you fall below a firm's screen, ask another firm.

Meningioma diagnosis: what proof you need

Firms ask for a meningioma diagnosis confirmed by imaging, usually an MRI or CT report, plus records showing you received Depo-Provera. In the MDL, every plaintiff must give threshold proof of use and proof of injury under the court's pretrial orders (PTO 17, later PTO 22 and 22A). Some firms add a treatment test: Simmons Hanly asks that surgery or radiation was done or scheduled, and Motley Rice accepts cranial meningioma only. Gather your pharmacy or clinic injection records, the imaging report, and any surgery or radiation notes before you call.

MDL 3140 status and case count

The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation sent federal cases to the Northern District of Florida on February 7, 2025. On June 15, 2026 the court was told that lead counsel and Pfizer had reached a global agreement and vacated the first trial (ECF 660). Case Management Order 12, dated July 27, 2026, says the Master Settlement Agreement was signed July 21, 2026, that about 80% of MDL plaintiffs are expected to be eligible, and that member filings had reached 6,289 total actions. The parties told the court registration should be done in November 2026 with payments starting by the first quarter of 2027. Cases that opt out or are ineligible continue under CMO 14.

FDA label warning

On December 12, 2025, the FDA approved Pfizer's supplement adding meningioma risk to Section 5 (Warnings and Precautions) and Section 17 (Patient Counseling) of the label for Depo-Provera CI (NDA 020246) and Depo-SubQ Provera 104 (NDA 021583). The FDA letter notes Pfizer first applied on February 5, 2024 and sent a complete response on June 12, 2025, after an FDA action letter on November 1, 2024. The lawsuits argue the warning came too late for women injected before it.

Statute of limitations varies by state and discovery rule

Your deadline depends on your state and on when you knew, or should have known, that the shot may have caused your tumor. Examples from the statutes: Florida, 4 years for product injury (Fla. Stat. 95.11(3)(d)), running from discovery (95.031(2)(b)); Texas, 2 years for personal injury (Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code 16.003(a)); California, 2 years (Cal. Code Civ. Proc. 335.1); New York, 3 years from discovery for latent exposure injuries (CPLR 214-c(2)); Minnesota, 4 years for strict product liability (Minn. Stat. 541.05 subd. 2). The court is testing statute-of-limitations defenses in new pilot cases, so do not wait.

Generic medroxyprogesterone

Many women received a generic shot rather than brand-name Depo-Provera. Simmons Hanly's screen covers Depo-Provera, Depo-SubQ Provera 104 and authorized generics, and Hilliard Law screens brand, Depo-SubQ and generic users. Whether a non-Pfizer generic qualifies depends on who made the drug and on the settlement's confidential rules. Ask your pharmacy for the manufacturer name (NDC) on each fill and bring it to the first call.

Do I qualify? Quick checklist

If you check the first three, call a firm for a free review. Firms make the final call, and settlement eligibility is decided under the confidential agreement.

How to join: you do not file with the court, a lawyer files for you

You do not file anything with the court yourself. A lawyer reviews your records, then files a short-form complaint for you in MDL 3140 in Pensacola (or places your claim on the court's no-fee administrative docket set up for the settlement under CMO 18). The lawyer submits your proof of use and proof of injury to the court's data administrator, BrownGreer, and registers you for the settlement if you are eligible. If you are not eligible, or you opt out, your case continues in court under CMO 14. You do not need to travel to Florida.

Top rated Depo-Provera lawyers nationwide

We did not find star ratings we could verify for these firms, so none are shown. Instead, the list is ordered by court role: the judge picked these attorneys for plaintiff leadership in Pretrial Order 18 (March 16, 2025) and kept the team in Pretrial Order 31 (March 20, 2026). Lead and co-lead counsel (Seeger Weiss, AWKO, Weitz & Luxenberg) rank first, then executive committee firms, then steering committee and subcommittee firms. Seeger Weiss and Hilliard Law say outright that they take clients nationwide; ask the others. Levin Papantonio, which holds the Liaison Counsel and an Executive Committee Co-Chair seat, is not listed because its page says it no longer accepts new Depo-Provera cases.

Depo-Provera lawyer near me: how to narrow this list

This is a national federal case, so the lawyer does not need to be in your city. Federal cases end up before the MDL court in Pensacola wherever you live; a smaller number of cases are filed in state courts. Narrow the list by three things: whether you meet the firm's injection screen, whether the firm has an office in your state (useful if your case ends up outside the settlement), and how fast it calls you back. Call two firms, ask each how many Depo-Provera clients it has, and ask who will handle your file day to day.

How much does a Depo-Provera lawyer cost

Mass tort firms usually work on contingency: no fee unless you recover. None of the nine firms here publish a percentage on the pages we checked. Ask for the fee percentage in writing, whether case costs come out before or after the fee, and whether a common benefit assessment (set by the MDL court for leadership work) is taken from the firm's fee or from your share. The court set up a Qualified Settlement Fund and Common Benefit Fund by order dated October 29, 2026.

Deadline to file a Depo-Provera claim

There are two clocks. The first is your state statute of limitations (2 to 4 years in the examples above, often from discovery). The second is the settlement process: the parties told the court in July 2026 that registration should be completed in November 2026. Drugwatch reports a November 30, 2026 registration date; we did not find that date in a court order. If you have a diagnosis and have not talked to a lawyer, call now.

What to do after a meningioma diagnosis

First, follow your doctor's advice on monitoring, surgery or radiation, and ask whether to keep using the shot. Then request your injection records from every clinic or pharmacy that gave you the shot, a copy of the imaging report, and surgery or pathology reports. Write down when you started and stopped the shot and when symptoms began. Do not post about your case online. Call a firm from this list for a free review.
